I’ve been using GoToMyPC from many years, and it has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective way to remotely connect to my work and home computers.
But a few years ago the company was purchased by LogMeIn, and that was soon accompanied by crazy, rapid price increases. At one time I was paying <$100 per year to access 2 computers. Then last year that price went up to nearly $200. When I received my newest renewal notice, GoToMyPC had raised that price to a whopping $840 per year (more than 4x’s last years bill)!
I quickly cancelled and began searching for a replacement. I found many positive recommendations for SplashTop, and at $60 annually for 2 computers, I decided to sign-up.
So far so good. SplashTop offers a mobile app as well as desktop clients, and it seems every bit as good as GoToMyPC at one tenth the price. Reviewers state that SplashTop has not raised prices in 5 years, but with all of the likely defectors from GoToMyPC, that many change – we’ll see.
If you’re struggling with GoToMyPC sticker shock, I think SplashTop is worth a look. Got other suggestions? Please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.
